Welcome to Minneapolis-Saint Paul!

With origins in the milling industry, the Minneapolis-Saint Paul region is now home to thriving corporate, civic, and creative industries. As the largest metropolitan area in Minnesota, MSP contributes more than economic and cultural history to the state. Before the arrival of European settlers and traders, the Dakota people called this region home. The name “Minnesota” itself comes from the Dakota word “Mnisota,” or “cloud-tinted waters” — a reference to the white hue of the rivers that run below limestone bluffs near Saint Paul. The Dakota language speaks through the geography of the region, from the city of Anoka to Bde Maka Ska, a lake in the heart of Uptown Minneapolis.

Supported by a robust philanthropic sector, MSP’s rich cultural offerings also build on the strengths of generations of immigrants: people from Africa, Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

We want to welcome our conference participants!  Join us for the conference and extend a few hours or days to learn more about the artistic, culinary, and intellectual richness of MSP.
