The City of Surrey is currently developing sustainability indicators to help measure progress on becoming a more sustainable City. The indicators and targets are a critical task from the Surrey Sustainability Charter, and will help operationalize and monitor the Charter’s vision, goals and actions.
To help develop the indicators and targets, the City brought together a community Task Force representing a variety of interests. From the work of this Task Force and involvement of many staff, a list of proposed indicators and targets was brought to City Council in December 2010 and approved.
The Sustainability Dashboard is an online platform that tracks and shares the progress of Surrey’s sustainability indicators over time. Launched in 2012, it has provided a transparent, user-friendly, and publicly-accessible report card on our sustainability achievements.
The Dashboard uses sustainability themes to organize the information, with a total of 78 metrics reported on in 2013, complementary sustainability maps are also drawn from the City’s extensive GIS system.
