Assessing and Integrating Community Climate Risk in the City of Calgary:

Sonak Patel

video

This month’s CIC coffee break features Sonak Patel with the City of Calgary in Canada. Acknowledging that climate change risk is unequally distributed both geographically and socially, Calgary is engaging in work to understand how climate hazards will uniquely impact communities across the city. Recently presented at the CIC’s Methods, Metrics, and Measurements Symposium, Sonak discusses the development of Climate Risk Profiles, which report the specific drivers of climate risk in each of Calgary’s communities. The presentation discusses both methods and metrics for these data sets and how the climate risk profiles are being used to support effective climate adaptation investments and policies.
