Description

The Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition, Inc. (CGIC), a group of community members and advocates working together in a comprehensive, coordinated approach for planning, accountability, and more recently awarded a contract with the Chatham County to develop a community-wide long range strategic plan. Our goal is to Improve Community Well-Being by engaging and leading the community to work collectively in its development of strategic priorities that guide policy, programs and resource allocation.

Project Approach

Community Assessment:
•Public Opinion Survey. Armstrong State University has been contracted to distribute 26,000 random surveys, equating to 1 in 4 Chatham County households. The goal is to have at least a 15% return rate through the utilization of incentives for completion. This information will be supplemental to feedback collected through neighborhood forums and focus group meetings, all occurring between February and April 2015.

Community Engagement:

•Communications & Outreach Strategy. Despite the intense efforts of CGIC, the group ran into a very common planning problem in 2013- lack of public participation. In order to increase visibility and broaden community engagement, CGIC Outreach and Marketing sub-committee is working with Abshire Public Relations to establish ongoing communication of the progress through a variety of sources to include: •Web Site: www.coastalgaindicators.org is the site that will serve as a link to various sponsor pages, will include a calendar of events, meeting minutes, and recently developed publications.
•Monthly Electronic Newsletters: will be used to maintain open and continuous communication, list opportunities for involvement, and include updates on progress.

•Community Meetings. An array of community participation opportunities will be provided.
