Description

Sustainable Seattle defines and implements sustainability in the Central Puget Sound region. Through developing indicators, implementing initiatives, and organizing coalitions of different groups, Sustainable Seattle works toward creating an interconnected group of sustainable urban centers across their community. The organization pioneered the use of community-based sustainability indicators and is recognized as the first “Sustainable Community” program. Sustainable Seattle uses a series of clearly defined and specific core values, as listed on their website. Sustainable Seattle issued regional sustainability indicators in 1993, 1995 and 1998. B-Sustainable.org is Sustainable Seattle’s fourth iteration of regional indicators for sustainability. Although discontinued by the new Sustainable Seattle’s leadership, this effort was a ground-breaking collaborative effort to understand and visualize causal relationships and to go from data to action.
