Real Story #6: Whole Child Leon Healthy Infant Partnership

Abstract: Poor birth outcomes, especially for African American mothers, have been a persistent problem in Leon County, Fla. In 2008, the Leon County Healthcare Advisory Board led community partners in the development of a plan to address this problem. In 2009, the Healthy Infant Partnership was formed to implement the plan. To date, more than 200 individuals representing 50 organizations have developed nearly 60 strategies to improve birth outcomes. The partnership developed and prioritized community strategies based on a framework developed by the Lawton and Rhea Chiles Center for Healthy Mothers and Babies of the University of South Florida.
